Gachagua Accuses Ruto of Plotting Nairobi Hospital Takeover

The political gloves are off! Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has escalated his war of words with the administration, sensationally claiming that President William Ruto is plotting a forced takeover of the prestigious Nairobi Hospital. Speaking during an interdenominational church service in Gatanga, Murang’a County on March 15, 2026, the DCP leader didn’t mince words, accusing the government of shifting from governance to “predatory business.”

“Ruto anataka kunyakua Nairobi Hospital. Tulikuwa tunatafuta kiongozi tukachagua mfanyabiashara,” Gachagua told the cheering congregation. (Translation: “Ruto wants to grab Nairobi Hospital. We were looking for a leader, but we chose a businessman.”)

Gachagua alleged that the recent police operations at the hospital were not about law enforcement, but intimidation. He claimed that board members were “rounded up” and held at various police stations over the weekend to coerce them into changing the hospital’s bylaws. According to the former DP, the goal is to install state-friendly proxies—specifically mentioning a figure named “Kasongo”—to take control of the institution’s massive Ksh1.5 billion monthly revenue.

The former DP linked this alleged “medical business” move to what he describes as a broader pattern of state capture. He cited the recent transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA) as a failure, pointing out that despite CS Duale’s assurances, Kenyans are still conducting “Harambees” (fundraisers) every weekend to settle hospital bills. For Gachagua, the interest in Nairobi Hospital is simply about following the money: “Ametoka kwa cement, tiles, na e-citizen, sasa ameingilia medical business.”

As Gachagua solidifies his “People’s Dialogue” alliance with figures like Fred Matiang’i and Kalonzo Musyoka, this latest “expose” has turned the Nairobi Hospital boardroom into a national political battlefield. Is this a genuine cry for the protection of private property, or is the former DP successfully painting the President as a “Merchant-in-Chief”? One thing is clear: the battle for 2027 has officially moved into the hospital wards.
