EMBARRASSING FLOP IN NEW YORK! Ruto’s Healthcare Forum Turns Into a Kenyan Affair as World Leaders Snub Event
What was billed as a prestigious global showcase of Kenya’s much-hyped Social Health Authority (SHA) turned into a spectacular embarrassment for President William Ruto in New York — after the over 50 heads of state Nairobi had promised would attend were nowhere to be seen.
Instead of a star-studded gathering of global leaders, diplomats, and international donors, the so-called “high-level forum” was packed with Kenyans who had flown in with the President’s delegation. By the end of it all, 85% of the audience was made up of Ruto’s entourage — including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, former governors and now Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Joho and William Kabogo, as well as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Whispers from the corridors suggest many foreign leaders had simply ignored Kenya’s calls to attend, with one diplomat describing the event as “a domestic PR stunt masquerading as a global summit.”
The humiliation has now rattled State House, with insiders revealing that Kenya is even considering canceling its upcoming “high-level forum” on affordable housing, another pet project that Ruto hoped to market internationally as proof of Kenya’s transformation into the so-called “African Singapore.”
Instead, what unfolded in New York was a show of smoke and mirrors — with Kenya’s delegation clapping for itself while the international community looked away.
Critics say this flop exposes the growing gap between Ruto’s big promises on the world stage and the actual global interest (or lack of it) in his flagship projects.
For many, the healthcare forum was not just a missed opportunity but a diplomatic embarrassment that Kenya can’t afford.
