GOAL-DEN RETURN! Harambee Starlets End 10-Year Wait, Qualify for WAFCON 2026!
What a night for Kenyan football! The Harambee Starlets have roared back onto the continental stage, securing their spot in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON)!
It’s been a long decade since their 2016 debut, but the wait is officially over. Our Queens have ended a 10-year absence with a masterful display of skill, discipline, and sheer determination.
Game, Set, Match: Dominance Over The Gambia
The final hurdle was overcome in Thies, Senegal, where the Starlets faced The Gambia. Already holding a strong lead from the first leg, Kenya didn’t take their foot off the gas.
The decisive blow? It came in the 27th minute courtesy of the electrifying Mwanahalima Adam! Her goal was the dagger, ultimately leading to a 1-0 win on the night and a dominant 4-1 aggregate victory.
Throughout the tie, the Starlets showcased incredible possession dominance and an organized defensive unit. This isn’t just a win; it’s a statement: Kenyan women’s football is here to compete!
A Million Reasons to Celebrate
The triumph on the field is being matched by support off of it. Recognizing this monumental achievement and the hard work of the squad, President William Ruto stepped up with a huge incentive!
In a massive boost for women’s sports in Kenya, the President awarded Ksh 1 million to each of the 23 players and every member of the technical staff. This level of support is a game-changer and signals a bright future for the Harambee Starlets as they prepare to take on Africa’s best in 2026.
Get ready, Africa. The Starlets are shining brighter than ever!
