Kenya’s Internet Boom: Fixed Lines Soar as 5G Adoption Takes Off

Although official numbers for June 2025 are yet to be released, industry trends paint a clear picture — Kenya’s internet revolution is charging full steam ahead.

Data from late 2024 and early 2025 show a sharp climb in both fixed internet and 5G subscriptions. Fixed internet users stood at about 1.5 million by June 2024, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), with demand fueled by remote work, online education, and growing digital lifestyles.

At the same time, 5G uptake is surging, thanks to rising smartphone penetration and the country’s hunger for faster connections to power streaming, gaming, and remote working. Analysts say the shift signals Kenya’s rapid embrace of high-speed connectivity — a move that could reshape how households, businesses, and schools operate in the digital economy.

In short, the story of Kenya’s internet growth isn’t just about numbers — it’s about a society steadily plugging into a faster, more connected future.
