DCI Nabs Teen Behind Kenyan Flag Desecration at Nyayo Stadium – Hunt Still On for Accomplice!

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of 17-year-old Ibrahim Haidar Yusuf, one of the suspects filmed desecrating Kenya’s national flag during the heated CAF clash between Mogadishu City Club and Kenya Police FC on September 20, 2025 at Nyayo Stadium.

The viral video, which sparked nationwide outrage, showed two individuals shamelessly disrespecting the national flag – an act that DCI says is not only offensive but also a direct violation of the law.

According to Section 2B of The National Flag, Emblems & Names Act, Cap 99, anyone who insults the anthem, flag, or national symbols in speech, manner, or writing commits a criminal offence.

While Yusuf is now in custody, detectives have launched a manhunt for the second suspect, believed to still be hiding somewhere within the country.

Kenyans online have welcomed the arrest, calling for harsh punishment to set an example, while others argue that such incidents highlight a growing need for respect, discipline, and patriotism in stadiums.

👉 The big question: Should offenders like Yusuf face jail time to protect the dignity of the flag, or does this call for a more educational approach?
