Abel Mutua Robbed at Knifepoint Near Morgue — “Nilibaki Uhai!”
Kenya’s beloved storyteller Abel Mutua, famously known as Mkurugenzi, is thanking his lucky stars after surviving a terrifying knife attack and robbery in Kahawa West.
The actor and filmmaker revealed in a shocking social media post that a gang of armed thugs ambushed him, snatching his iPhone 16 Pro Max and Bose headphones before fleeing into the night.
“Wueh! Sema kimeumana! The young men at Kahawa West walinikaribisha jiji jana… But cha muhimu ni despite the massive knives they were carrying, walinibakishia uhai,” Mutua wrote.
In true Mkurugenzi style, the ever-humorous star couldn’t resist adding a chilling joke — saying the attack happened right across from the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital Morgue.
“Ironically they jumped me right across from the KUTRRH Morgue. Wangeamua, ningeamkia kwa fridge leo,” he quipped.
Fans flooded his page with messages of shock, relief, and laughter. His long-time friend Njugush commented, “Hawatambui ata Wazee??? Usiwalaani baa mdogo,” while Phil Karanja joked, “Ei siku hizi mtu anakaribishwa county zote si Nairobi tu.”
Mutua ended his post by saying he’d be “unreachable for a few days” as he replaces his stolen gadgets, signing off with trademark humor:
“Haya! Mtaniruhusu nilale mteja siku kadhaa.”
Despite the ordeal, Mutua’s wit shone through — a reminder that Kenya’s favorite storyteller knows how to turn even near-death experiences into unforgettable tales.
