“One Out of Ten!” Sifuna Tears Into Ruto Over Failed NADCO Promises

NAIROBI, Kenya — In one of the most blistering political assessments of the year, Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has officially “answered” President William Ruto, dismissing the government’s progress reports as a collection of fabrications. Speaking during a heated press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Sifuna delivered a “generous” score of 1 out of 10 to the Kenya Kwanza administration for its failure to implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) recommendations.

Sifuna took particular aim at the President’s narrative regarding austerity and devolution. While the government has claimed credit for closing the offices of the First and Second Ladies as a cost-cutting measure, Sifuna set the record straight: “That was thanks to the Gen Z,” he noted, asserting that the youth-led protests—not government goodwill—forced those closures. He further lambasted the administration for “doubling State House allocations” and “peddling lies” about the amount of money actually being devolved to the counties.

The Senator also highlighted a deepening crisis in the rule of law and human rights. He pointed out that since the signing of the initial MOU between the government and the opposition, over 30 young Kenyans have lost their lives to police brutality, including victims in Kitengela and Nairobi. Sifuna accused the President of “throwing teargas at churches” and violating the right to peaceful assembly, despite riding to power on a platform of religious and constitutional respect.

Perhaps most significantly, Sifuna signaled a total breakdown in the “broad-based” political cooperation. He accused President Ruto of systematically hollowing out the opposition, stating that “ODM is no longer recognizable as a political movement” due to constant interference. Adding financial insult to injury, he revealed that the government owes ODM Sh12 billion in political party funds, ignoring five separate court orders to release the money.

With the NADCO agreement officially expired and the opposition giving the government a failing grade, the political temperature in Nairobi is reaching a boiling point. Sifuna concluded that there is “absolutely no basis” for negotiating new agreements or extending current ones, as the administration has failed to account for the country’s Sh11 trillion national debt or address the “opulence and display of wealth” by state officials that continues to trigger public outrage.
