Omanga Promises Gakuya “6 Million Votes” in Bold Nairobi Governor Bid!

In a move that has sent ripples through the city’s political corridors, aspiring Nairobi Woman Representative Millicent Omanga has officially thrown her weight behind Embakasi North MP James Gakuya in his quest for the Nairobi Governorship. This early alignment marks a significant shift in the 2027 General Election roadmap, as “Mama Miradi” moves to consolidate a formidable voting bloc.

The political significance of this alliance is amplified by Omanga’s official transition into the camp of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Since his impeachment in October 2024, Gachagua has repositioned himself as a formidable opposition figure under his new Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). Omanga, a key lieutenant in this new “Mountain” movement, has boldly promised to deliver over 6 million votes to Gakuya, leveraging a strategic coalition between the GEMA (Kikuyu) and Gusii (Kisii) communities residing in the capital. This “ethnic arithmetic” is designed to create a massive urban voting base that could prove unstoppable in a gubernatorial race.

James Gakuya, who remains a staunch ally of the former DP, has intensified his offensive against current Governor Johnson Sakaja. Gakuya recently stated that “the city’s shine has worn off,” citing systemic failures in garbage collection, disaster management, and the general deterioration of urban infrastructure. He has even hinted that his political future may lie outside the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), suggesting he is prepared to vie for the top seat on a DCP ticket or through a broader opposition coalition if the current “internal friction” within the ruling party persists.

For Nairobians, this duo represents a direct and aggressive challenge to the status quo. Omanga’s grassroots “Mama Miradi” brand—which resonates deeply with the city’s informal sectors—paired with Gakuya’s “Bazenga” reputation in Eastlands, signals that the battle for City Hall will be a high-stakes, multi-ethnic contest. As Omanga launches her bid to unseat Esther Passaris, her alliance with Gakuya serves as a clear indicator that the 2027 race will not just be about individual candidates, but about which faction can best command the city’s diverse and demanding voting blocks.
