Family of Kenyan Woman Found Dead in Australia Demands Answers

The family of Sheila Jepkorir Chebii, a Kenyan woman who died under mysterious circumstances in Australia, is demanding answers from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and the Kenyan Embassy in Canberra over the circumstances surrounding her death.

Chebii, who had reportedly travelled to Australia in search of better opportunities, was found dead in a hotel in Sydney only a few weeks after arriving in the country. Australian authorities are said to have concluded that the 29-year-old died after falling from the 19th floor of the building, with preliminary reports indicating that the incident was being treated as a suicide.

However, her family has strongly questioned that conclusion, saying they are struggling to understand how their daughter could have taken her own life shortly after relocating abroad. Relatives insist that several questions surrounding her final days remain unanswered and are calling for a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances leading to her death.

According to family members, Sheila had been optimistic about her future and had remained in contact with relatives back home after settling in Australia. They say there were no obvious signs that she was facing challenges severe enough to drive her to take her own life, prompting them to seek further clarification from authorities.

The grieving family is now appealing to the Kenyan government to intervene through diplomatic channels and ensure that all aspects of the case are properly investigated. They want the Kenyan Embassy in Australia to actively follow up on the matter and provide them with regular updates regarding the findings of Australian investigators.

The case has also reignited concerns about the welfare of Kenyans living and working abroad, particularly those who relocate to foreign countries in search of employment and educational opportunities. Families of Kenyans in the diaspora have frequently called for stronger support systems and more robust consular assistance whenever citizens encounter difficulties overseas.

As they continue mourning the loss of their loved one, Sheila’s family says their primary objective is to establish the truth about what happened in Sydney. They insist that obtaining clear answers will be critical not only for their own closure but also for ensuring justice if any wrongdoing is eventually uncovered.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has yet to publicly comment on the family’s appeal. Meanwhile, relatives remain hopeful that both Kenyan and Australian authorities will work together to provide a comprehensive account of the events leading to Sheila Jepkorir Chebii’s death.

For now, what should have been the beginning of a new chapter in a young Kenyan’s life has instead become a painful mystery, leaving a grieving family searching for answers thousands of kilometers away from where their daughter lost her life.
