Gengetone Star Shalkido Dies in Tragic Hit-and-Run Crash on Thika Road
Kenya’s Gengetone scene is in mourning following the tragic death of Shalkido, real name Kevin Mburu Kinyanjui, who passed away on October 6, 2025, after a fatal hit-and-run accident along Thika Road near Githurai-Carwash.
The Sailors Gang hitmaker reportedly suffered severe head injuries when an unidentified vehicle rammed into his motorbike and sped off, leaving him critically injured on the roadside. Shalkido was rushed to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where doctors declared him brain dead on October 5, a day before his death was confirmed.
Sources close to the family say the artist was returning home from a performance in Thika when the crash occurred. The tragic twist — Shalkido was riding the very motorbike that fans had recently gifted him to help support his family amid tough financial times.

The young father leaves behind a wife and children, plunging his family and fans into grief. Police have since launched a manhunt for the driver, who remains at large.
Shalkido, known for his street anthems and raw Gengetone energy, had been struggling to revive his career after the Sailors group’s fallout. His death has sparked an outpouring of emotion online, with fellow artists and fans calling for justice and safer roads for Kenya’s youth.
“He was trying to rebuild his life — this is heartbreaking,” one fan wrote.
Shalkido’s legacy in Kenya’s Gengetone movement will live on — loud, raw, and unforgettable.
