Senior NIS Officer Found Dead in Locked Nyamira Residence
A cloud of mystery has surrounded the death of a senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer who was found dead inside his official residence in Nyamira County, triggering investigations by security agencies.
The deceased, identified as David Kipkoech Kosgey, 56, was serving as the head of County Intelligence Coordination in Nyamira. His body was discovered inside his house after colleagues became concerned when he failed to report for an official assignment and could not be reached through his phone.
According to Nyamira County Commissioner Benson Leparimorio, Kosgey had been scheduled to travel to Nairobi on official duty. However, when junior officers failed to locate him throughout the morning, concerns grew, prompting them to visit his residence. The house, located near the County Commissioner’s residence, was reportedly locked from the inside, forcing officers to break down the door to gain entry.
Upon entering the house, officers found Kosgey dead under circumstances that investigators have described as suspicious. Preliminary observations indicated that there were signs suggesting a struggle may have occurred within the residence. Authorities also noted the presence of blood believed to have resulted from vomiting, although no visible physical injuries were found on the officer’s body.
County Commissioner Leparimorio said investigators are treating the scene with caution and have avoided drawing conclusions before a postmortem examination is conducted. He revealed that while colleagues indicated Kosgey had reportedly been battling high blood pressure, authorities cannot determine the exact cause of death until forensic examinations are completed.
The officer’s death has sent shockwaves through Nyamira’s security establishment, where he was regarded as a key figure in intelligence coordination and security operations. Security officials have since secured the residence as a crime scene while detectives continue gathering evidence to establish what transpired in the hours leading up to his death.
Investigators are expected to analyze forensic evidence collected from the residence, review the officer’s recent movements, and interview colleagues and close associates as part of efforts to establish whether the death resulted from natural causes or other factors. The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination that authorities hope will provide crucial answers.
The incident has raised many questions within the county, particularly because the residence was locked from the inside and no obvious injuries were found on the body. While speculation continues to circulate, authorities have urged the public to remain patient and allow investigators to complete their work before conclusions are reached.
As investigations continue, family members, colleagues, and residents are now awaiting the results of the postmortem examination, which is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of one of Nyamira’s most senior intelligence officers.
