“He Ran Away, Now He Wants to Lead?” Njiru Dismantles Matiang’i’s Ambitions

High Court Advocate and firebrand political commentator Ndegwa Njiru has thrown a bombshell into the opposition camp, warning that former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i could be nothing more than a state-backed pawn set up to divide and weaken the opposition ahead of 2027.

Speaking in a fiery interview on Spice FM, Njiru dismissed Matiang’i as “a political novice” with no real grassroots muscle, accusing him of avoiding his Kisii base and instead banking on Mt. Kenya photo-ops and “meetings greased by powers that be.”

“Politics is never a coincidence. Things are made to happen,” Njiru warned, suggesting a deeper plot to split the opposition vote.

Njiru – a close ally of former DP Rigathi Gachagua – also tore into Matiang’i’s past, reminding Kenyans of the Ruaraka land saga, where the ex-CS allegedly jetted off to New York to dodge arrest, only to resurface later with a World Bank job and now, whispers of a State House bid.

“He ran away when things got hot… then suddenly he’s unveiled as a presidential hopeful? He is not a man you can look in the eye and trust,” Njiru thundered.

The remarks have sent shockwaves through the already shaky opposition, where big names – Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Justin Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, Rigathi Gachagua, and Matiang’i – are all circling the same 2027 crown but can’t agree on a single flagbearer.

Njiru’s message? Unity or death.
“Opposition’s success doesn’t lie in projects or personal ambition… only in standing together.”
