PHOTOS: President Ruto Makes First Public Appearance in Full Military Gear During KDF Day in Eldoret

President William Ruto stepped out in full Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle uniform for the first time since assuming office, as he presided over the 14th annual KDF Day at Moi Barracks, Eldoret, on October 14.

The rare military appearance sparked widespread public interest, with photos showing Ruto fully kitted in camouflage uniform, combat boots, and a red beret—the official regalia of the KDF Commander-in-Chief. He inspected a guard of honour, saluted officers, and participated in ceremonial military rites.

This year’s KDF Day, themed “Enhancing a Soldier-Centric Approach Towards Mission Readiness for National Security and Development,” featured:

  • A grand military parade
  • A display of advanced military equipment
  • Demonstrations by elite units
  • A groundbreaking ceremony for a new military welfare mall to support officers and their families

Top military officials, Cabinet members, and dignitaries attended the colourful ceremony.

Public reactions to the photos flooded social media, with many Kenyans praising the Commander-in-Chief’s show of solidarity with the armed forces. Others remarked that the photos reflected military pride, discipline, and patriotism.

KDF Day is marked annually to honour soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty and celebrate servicemen and women currently defending the nation at home and abroad.
