Former DP Demands Arrests Over Viral Threat Video as UDA Hits Back with Sh10M Fraud Bomb

The political feud between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) reached a boiling point this week, transforming the upcoming Mbeere North by-election into a high-stakes battleground for Mt. Kenya Politics.

Gachagua, who is aggressively campaigning for Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Newton Kariuki against UDA’s Leonard Muriuki, has escalated the conflict by formally writing to Inspector General Douglas Kanja. The letter demands the immediate arrest of four individuals captured on a widely circulated viral video issuing explicit threats of violence against Gachagua and his supporters.

The former DP did not mince words, directly attributing the threats to political allies of Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who also serves as the UDA chairperson. Despite acknowledging the serious risks, Gachagua vowed to proceed with his planned nine-day campaign tour, scheduled from November 16 to 24, ahead of the crucial November 27 poll.

In a shocking and unprecedented move, the ruling party launched a blistering counter-attack, dismissing Gachagua’s security fears as mere “political theatrics” aimed at garnering sympathy.

However, the UDA’s response went far beyond rhetoric. The party leadership imposed an effective campaign ban on their former Deputy Leader, demanding that Gachagua first refund a staggering Sh10 million allegedly collected from a UDA party aspirant under false pretenses. The party denied any involvement in inciting political violence but made it clear that Gachagua’s ethical accountability must be resolved before he is permitted to campaign for the UDA candidate.

The sensational Sh10M Scam allegation successfully shifted the narrative, turning the debate from Gachagua’s safety to his integrity. This showdown positions Governor Mbarire and her UDA camp directly against Gachagua, making the Mbeere North seat the ultimate test of political dominance in the region.
