Bayo Family Meltdown: Why Her Brother Is Fighting For Pastor Kanyari To Get Full Custody of the Kids
The tragic passing of beloved gospel musician Betty Bayo has sadly been followed by a dramatic family fallout. Barely weeks after she was laid to rest, her brother, Edward Mbugua, has taken to social media, lifting the lid on what he claims is intense drama surrounding Bayo’s children and assets.
Mbugua’s revelations, shared on his TikTok account, have sent shockwaves across social media, raising serious questions about the status of Bayo’s final relationship and the future of her estate.
Edward Mbugua’s primary concern seems to be the custody of his niece and nephew, Sky and Danny. He claims the extended family is being denied access to the children.
In a surprising turn, Mbugua publicly asserted that the only father the family acknowledges is Pastor Victor Kanyari. He strongly argued that Kanyari—Bayo’s former partner and the biological father of the children—should be granted full custody.
Mbugua’s emotional claim: “Kanyari is the biological father to Sky and Danny and we share blood with Kanyari. Bayo united us through those two kids na huwezi tugawa watoto na mali we are the family of Bayo, and Kanyari is the father.”
According to Mbugua, the bond Bayo shared with Kanyari was cemented through the children, and this connection extends to the entire extended family.
Perhaps the most explosive allegation Mbugua made concerns Bayo’s widower, Hiram Gitau, known as Tash. Mbugua vehemently denies that Tash was ever officially married to his late sister.
In a response to a netizen who suggested Tash would inherit everything as the legal husband, Mbugua offered a stunning rebuttal:
“Everything is with the next of kin, and things are slowly coming to light. No one married anyone anywhere. It never reached that point; it was just a celebration. If you know how ruracio rituals there was none there and I was there.”
This statement suggests that the ceremony between Bayo and Tash was not a legally or traditionally recognized marriage (ruracio being the traditional Kikuyu dowry ceremony), which could significantly impact the legal standing of the inheritance.
Mbugua, who revealed he and his sister shared a deep bond and that he was involved in her investment plans, is determined to safeguard her financial future for the children.
He insists that all of his sister’s assets must be consolidated and placed under the names of his niece and nephew. “I want everything that belongs to my sister to be put in one place because the kids are growing, and these are their mother’s assets, and there is no discussion,” he stated.
In another twist, Mbugua claimed that the family was largely unaware of the severity of Bayo’s illness. He noted that he was only aware of “mild headaches and a runny nose,” stating there was no indication that his sister was seriously ill. This lack of awareness has reportedly caused further distress and mixed reactions on social media.
