Student Unrest Crisis Deepens as Alliance High Fire Suspects Arrested

The investigation into a fire incident at Alliance High School has intensified after police arrested 10 students suspected of being involved in the incident that destroyed part of the school’s mattress storage facility.

The arrests come as authorities continue to piece together what happened at one of Kenya’s most prestigious national schools. According to school officials, the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning and affected a section of an older dormitory facility used for storing mattresses. Fortunately, the blaze was quickly contained before it could spread to other parts of the school, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Board of Management Chairman Sam Ncheeri confirmed that 10 students had been taken into custody to assist investigators as police seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire. Following the incident, Alliance High School temporarily closed and parents were asked to collect their children. Education experts have warned that the recent wave of unrest points to deeper challenges within schools, including student welfare concerns, discipline issues, mental health pressures, and the need for stronger engagement between learners and school administrations.
