Ruto Inspects Key Wajir–Tarbaj–Kutulo Road Project During North Eastern Tour
President William Ruto inspected the ongoing Wajir–Tarbaj–Kutulo road project during his visit to Wajir County, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity across Kenya’s North Eastern region.
The President toured sections of the road project while attending the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir, where infrastructure development featured prominently among the government’s key achievements and priorities. The road, which connects Wajir, Tarbaj, and Kutulo, is expected to significantly improve movement of people, goods, and services across the region once completed.
During the inspection, Ruto emphasized the strategic importance of the project, noting that improved road networks are essential for unlocking economic opportunities, facilitating trade, enhancing security operations, and improving access to critical services such as healthcare and education. The President reiterated that no part of the country should remain isolated due to poor infrastructure.
The Wajir–Tarbaj–Kutulo road has long been viewed by residents as a transformative project capable of reducing travel times, lowering transportation costs, and opening up remote areas that have historically faced challenges due to poor road conditions. Local leaders have consistently pushed for the upgrading of the route, arguing that it will stimulate economic growth and attract investment into the region.
Ruto noted that the government’s broader development agenda includes expanding road networks across marginalized areas to ensure that communities can fully participate in national economic growth. He said improved connectivity would strengthen trade links between counties in the North Eastern region while enhancing access to government services.
The President’s inspection of the project came as part of a wider tour of development initiatives in Wajir County during the Madaraka Day celebrations. The visit also highlighted government investments in healthcare, water projects, education, and security infrastructure aimed at accelerating development in the region.
Residents and local leaders welcomed the progress of the road project, expressing optimism that its completion will address long-standing transportation challenges that have affected businesses, farmers, traders, and ordinary wananchi for years.
Once completed, the Wajir–Tarbaj–Kutulo road is expected to become a critical transport corridor within North Eastern Kenya, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting the government’s efforts to spur economic growth and integration in one of the country’s historically underserved regions.
