DCI Boss Mohamed Amin Elected to INTERPOL Executive Committee

In a major diplomatic and security victory, Kenya has cemented its position at the forefront of global policing. DCI Boss Mohamed Amin was officially elected as Africa’s Delegate to the INTERPOL Executive Committee during the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco.

This election is a significant milestone, placing Kenya at the very heart of INTERPOL’s governing body and international security strategy for the next three years.

Mohamed Amin brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience and a distinguished track record to the table. His tenure has been marked by a concerted push to strengthen Kenya’s collaboration with regional and international partners, including AFRIPOL and EAPCCO (East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation).

In his acceptance remarks, Amin outlined a clear, forward-looking agenda designed to address the unique and evolving challenges faced by the African continent:

  • Championing Technology-Driven Policing: Leveraging modern tools and digital forensics to combat sophisticated transnational crime and cyber threats.
  • Enhancing Capacity-Building: Prioritising training and resource allocation to empower law enforcement agencies across Africa.
  • Representing Africa’s Priorities: Ensuring the continent’s most pressing security concerns—including terrorism, trafficking, and organized crime—are central to global policing discussions.

The INTERPOL Executive Committee provides the strategic guidance that shapes the organisation’s operations worldwide. Securing this seat is a powerful vote of confidence from the international community in Kenya’s leadership and commitment to cross-border security cooperation.

Amin’s election highlights the strategic importance of Nairobi as a security hub and positions Kenya not just as a consumer of global security intelligence, but as a key contributor and policymaker. This new role will allow the DCI Boss to directly influence the global fight against cross-border criminal networks, benefiting not only Kenya but the entire African region.

Mohamed Amin will serve a three-year term, working alongside the other elected members to oversee the implementation of General Assembly decisions and guide INTERPOL’s strategic direction for a safer world.
