IEBC Boss Fires Back: Stealing Kenyan Elections Is ‘Impossible’
The electoral body in Kenya is sending a strong message of confidence ahead of the critical 2027 General Elections! The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), identified here as Ethekon, has publicly declared that stealing Kenyan elections is “impossible” due to the robust systems currently in place.
Ethekon made the bold statement during a comprehensive review of last month’s by-elections, which were held across 22 wards and constituencies.
The Chairman praised the execution of the polls, citing on-time polling and an impressive 99% reliability of the voter kits used across the various stations. He emphasized that the process is designed to be fully transparent and protected by multiple, independent layers of oversight:
- Dedicated Officers: Commission officials on the ground.
- Neutral Observers: External groups monitoring the process.
- Media Scrutiny: Journalists and media houses tracking results in real-time.
According to Ethekon, these combined forces effectively prevent any large-scale manipulation of the results.
While affirming the integrity of the recent polls, the IEBC leader issued a stern warning to the political class. He urged politicians and their supporters to use legal channels for any complaints or disputes regarding election outcomes.
He specifically called out the use of harassment and the spread of unfounded rumors, suggesting that such activities undermine public trust and are unnecessary given the transparent nature of the counting and tallying process.
The commission did acknowledge minor issues during the by-elections, primarily noting concerning trends like low voter apathy and a few isolated claims of voter bribery. However, these issues did not affect the overall integrity of the polls. The IEBC remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining this level of integrity as they look forward to preparing for the crucial 2027 polls.
